Veel mensen dromen ervan. Een huis met een tuin, die niet alleen geschikt is om in te zitten, maar die ook nog eens een nuttige functie heeft. Een plek waar ze hun eigen fruit kunnen laten groeien. Klinkt heel mooi, maar het is vaak simpeler gezegd dan gedaan.

Waarom zelf fruit telen

Fruit uit eigen tuin is het lekkerst. Niet alleen omdat je ervan hebt genoten je planten te verzorgen, maar ook doordat je zelf waarschijnlijk geen of minder bestrijdingsmiddelen gebruikt dan de professionele teler, en het fruit uit eigen tuin vers van de boom of van de plant af komt.

Wil je klein beginnen, dan kun je kiezen voor een fruitsoort die het ook goed doet in potten en bakken, zoals de aardbei.

Of een fruitsoort het goed gaat doen, hangt voor een groot deel samen met de plek waar het gezet wordt.

De beste standplaats van de fruitplant of -boom

Heb je een tuin die voor een groot deel in de volle zon ligt? Dan is dit een perfecte plek om fruit te telen. Zorg er wel voor dat je de fruitboom of -plant op een beschutte plek neerzet. Zorg ervoor dat de plant voldoende water heeft opgenomen, door deze een halve dag in een emmer water te zetten.

Heb je een balkon en zijn de mogelijkheden tot fruit telen wat meer beperkt? Kies dan voor een dwergboompje in een pot. Je kunt dan toch telen, en het staat nog decoratief ook.

Is het fruit gerijpt, pluk het dan bij droog weer. Zet het direct koel.
